For Tutors

The longer you teach, the less you pay

Your commission rate isn't fixed. It drops as you grow — and stays low forever.

The problem with fixed commissions

On most platforms, your commission rate is fixed from day one — and stays that way indefinitely. A tutor who's been teaching on the platform for three years, has hundreds of completed sessions, and contributes consistently to the platform's reputation pays exactly the same percentage as someone who joined yesterday.

That's a model that rewards the platform, not the tutors who build it. EasyLang takes a different approach: your rate improves as your commitment to the platform grows, and once it drops, it never goes back up.

The commission progression

  1. 1

    Hours 1–50: 10% commission

When you start on EasyLang, the platform doesn't know you yet — and neither do students. The initial 10% helps build the refund reserve that protects your students and covers the costs of establishing your profile and presence on the platform.

  2. 2

    Hour 51 onward: 7% — permanently

After your first 50 teaching hours, your commission drops to 7% and stays there. No conditions, no re-evaluation, no way to lose it. Every session from that point forward runs at 7%, for as long as you teach on EasyLang.

The flat-rate option

Once you've reached both milestones below, a third option becomes available: a flat-rate plan that replaces commission entirely on the days you activate it.

Unlock requirements (both must be met)

50 lifetime teaching hours — AND — $160 in total platform contributions from your commissions. These two conditions exist for the same reason: they ensure the platform has built enough reserve to protect your students before you cap what you contribute.

Once unlocked, here's how the flat-rate plan works:

  1. 1

    You activate the flat-rate plan

Purchase $45 in subscription credit. This is your balance — it doesn't expire and isn't locked to a calendar month.

  2. 2

    Each active day costs $1.50

At UTC midnight, $1.50 is deducted from your subscription credit for that day — but only if the plan is set to active. On any day you pause it, nothing is deducted.

  3. 3

0% commission on all sessions that day

On every day the plan is active, every session you teach runs at 0% commission. What matters is the model active on the day the session takes place — not when it was booked.

  4. 4

Pause anytime — switch takes effect the next day

You can switch between active and paused once per calendar day (UTC). The change takes effect at the next UTC midnight. On paused days, the standard 7% commission applies and no daily charge is deducted.

Comparing the models

Model Rate Daily cost Best for
Pay-as-you-go (first 50h) 10% None New tutors getting started
Pay-as-you-go (after 50h) 7% None Light to moderate teaching schedules
Flat rate (active days) 0% $1.50 Active tutors with consistent daily volume
Flat rate (paused days) 7% None Days off, vacations, lighter weeks

Break-even point for the flat-rate plan

At 7% commission, the flat-rate plan ($1.50/day) pays off when your daily session revenue exceeds $21.43. That's roughly 30 minutes of teaching at $43/hour — or one session at most standard rates. If you regularly teach more than one session per day, the flat rate is almost certainly worth activating on those days.

Subscription credit: what happens when it runs out

When your subscription credit drops to $0, the flat-rate plan deactivates automatically at the next UTC midnight. Your commission reverts to 7% and no further daily charges occur. You'll receive a warning notification before this happens, showing how many days of credit remain and when the plan will deactivate at your local time.

You can also enable auto-renewal: if your credit drops below one day's charge, $45 is automatically drawn from your EasyLang wallet to top it up. If your wallet doesn't have sufficient funds for auto-renewal, the plan deactivates rather than creating a negative balance.
